A former student charged in connection with the death of a freshman last year has been given more time in the legal process, a spokesperson said this week.

Michael Rogers, the lawyer representing former Phi Kappa Tau fraternity president Mike Torney, of Randolph, N.J., received an extension of 60 days to find more facts before Torney’s status conference in front of a judge, said Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Casey DeBlasio. The date has been set for April 22.

In a game that Rider led for nearly the entire contest, it took a free throw in the last few seconds to take the Bracketbuster.
Junior Harris Mansell made a career-high five 3-pointers and tied a career high with 21 points in Rider’s 73-72 Bracketbuster win over Cal State Northridge on Saturday. Mansell is averaging 18.3 points in the Broncs last three games.

The Rider baseball team started its season off strong, sweeping last weekend’s three-game series at Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Broncs were able to take advantage of an offensive explosion. They batted .340 as a team and produced 26 runs in the three games, propelling them past their competition.

The first time I bought my textbooks from the Rider University Store, I was appalled. Hundreds of dollars on books for core classes that I would never need to open again? Being naïve, I thought that the stores on campus would give students a break when it came to things we needed.

Rider’s track and field team found itself lacking in numbers as the indoor season wound down.

As a result of limited numbers on the roster, the women’s team ended up in second place, while the men fell behind in fourth place at the MAAC Championships over the weekend.

The Black Student Union (BSU) believes that it is important for Rider University and surrounding communities to understand the history of African Americans as well as their impact on American culture and history. This year, BSU coined the slogan “Red, Black, and Green. What Does It Mean?” as its slogan for Black History Month 2008.

While the Republican nomination for president is for all practical purposes decided, the Democrats are still squaring off for the nod. With 967 pledged delegates under his belt, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is well on his way to getting the 1,191 delegates needed to capture the Republican nomination for president. The Democratic race is still too close to call.

P.J. Heckman is fairly certain that he only got into the Deaftones because of his looks.

After all, the second-year graduate student at Westminster Choir College (WCC) showed up to auditions for the a cappella choir wearing a tuxedo.

“I auditioned coming straight from a wedding reception in my tuxedo and I sang Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab,’” he said. “I didn’t expect to get in because I was just having fun with it.”
