Senior Heather Jantz, a psychology major, is worried about finding a job after she graduates.

Her ideal position would be one that applies to her major, but she fears that accomplishing this task might be difficult because of the current economic state. Jantz expects that she will need to lower her standards when searching for employment.

A turf surface is planned to be installed on the athletic fields by the start of  next semester, school administrators have announced. It will be mainly used for club sports and intramurals.

The varsity soccer field may get a million-dollar face-lift.

Plans are being put in motion to replace the grass soccer field with turf. Installing the turf is estimated to cost anywhere between $800,000 and $900,000. However, the groundbreaking is not going to happen anytime in the near future. According to Mike Reca, associate vice president for Auxiliary Services and Facilities, the plan has not gone beyond identifying the location of the new field.

Hit-and-Run February 29, 2008

An underage sorority member was transported to the hospital on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 11:35 p.m., after consuming too much alcohol. The female fell off a bed, hit her head on an end table and injured her face. When Public Safety arrived, the victim was conscious and able to speak. The officers could see open alcohol bottles in the room. She has been charged by both LTPD and the University.

Gone February 29, 2008

A laptop was stolen from Wright Hall on Sunday, Feb. 24. A female resident student reported that the laptop and its charger were missing from her room. The computer has been valued at $1,000. LTPD was called in to take a report. Anyone with information, contact LTPD at 896-1111 or Pubic Safety at x. 5029.

Three Grand February 29, 2008

Pricey electronics were among the items stolen from a room in Hill Hall on Monday, Feb. 25. A male resident student reported that he had returned to his room at 2:03 a.m., and found his laptop, television, computer games and money missing. The Lawrence Township Police Department (LTPD) was called to take a report. The missing items are valued at $3,200. Anyone with information, contact LTPD at 896-1111 or Public Safety at x. 5029.

UNICCO and the Sustainable Rider Committee are teaming up to reduce waste on the Lawrenceville campus that can hurt the environment. New recycling bins have been ordered.

After forming the Sustainable Rider Committee and teaming up with UNICCO cleaning services and John Kennedy, vice president of Operational Support, the University is looking to lighten its footprint on the planet by stepping up recycling.

It’s too bad that most New Jerseyans are not feeling the same way toward their state government that Anne Murray feels in the lyric from “Danny’s Song”: “Even though we ain’t got money, I’m so in love with you honey.” But even love would not solve the fiscal crisis New Jersey is in and overcome the financial hurdles that lie ahead. Some of those hurdles are likely to affect Rider directly.

Research projects from all of the science and math disciplines were shared and displayed last week by both students and faculty members.

The Spring 2008 Student Research Science Symposium featured student research projects being conducted under the guidance of Rider professors. Students from both departments spent the evening discussing different facets of their research and answering questions from professors and prospective Rider students.
