Westminster takes shape on two campuses

Restructuring of programs on the Lawrenceville and Princeton campuses has led to the creation of a new academic college at Rider.

The new Westminster College of the Arts (WCA) will include Westminster Choir College (WCC) and the School of Fine and Performing Arts (SFPA), President Mordechai Rozanski announced yesterday.

Technology, as helpful as it is, has its disadvantages, as Monster Inc., the online career networking company, recently learned.

According to an e-mail sent to its users in September, the corporation was the victim of online fraud.

Blackout December 7, 2007

High winds knocked down power lines off campus, disrupting power to the Lawrenceville campus for nearly two hours on Monday, officials said.

A regional power outage cause by downed power lines occurred Monday, Dec. 3, at 10:52 a.m., and affected the school’s main campus, said Public Service Electric and Gas spokesperson Patty Johnson. Power was restored by 12:50 p.m.

The Princeton campus was unaffected by this event.

Nazi December 7, 2007

A Nazi symbol was found in Switlik Hall. On Saturday, Dec. 1, the swastika was found by a female student in a hallway but she could not provide a timeframe in which it was first drawn. Anyone with information, call Public Safety at x. 5029.

Members of the Rider community are giving back this holiday season by reaching out to a family in need.

Dr. Adriano Duque’s Spanish I, III, and Medieval Literature classes and the Spanish Club are partnering with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton to adopt a family for Christmas.

A bowling league made up of Rider students and Special Olympians from a local school district was honored as “Program of the Year” on Oct. 28, for its overall team performance and support of Special Olympics events year-round.

Although students may be unaware that domestic violence can occur on a college campus, there are resources available at Rider University for students who are in distress.

Domestic violence is defined under New Jersey state law as something that happens to someone 18 years of age or older.

The person committing the violence may be a current or former spouse, or a current or former household member.

After the tragic loss of their daughter in a fire, Pat and George Gordon became the guardians of their five grandchildren: Brian, 13; Bailey, 11; Brandon, 8; Bradley, 5; and Brooke, 2.

The grandparents picked up what was left of the children’s belongings after the fire and moved to Croydon, Pa., into a dilapidated house that needed a lot of work. It was the only home the Gordons could afford that provided enough room for everyone.

The patio outside Daly’s Dining Hall will be enclosed over the summer to double as a dining room extension and high-tech meeting room.

In response to several bias incidents on campus, the University formed the President’s Committee on Tolerance to establish unity among all students despite their diverse backgrounds.

Don Brown, director of Multicultural Affairs and Community Service, and Dean of Students Anthony Campbell head the committee and work with students, staff and faculty to promote understanding and tolerance. Those involved are divided into subcommittees designed to organize programs to educate the Rider community about different cultures and also ensure community values are recognized.
