Senior Tyler Brewington won his second event of the fall season last weekend at the Mount St. Mary’s Fall Classicby Charles Guthrie

The Rider men’s golf team was unable to close out the 2007 fall season on a high note.

The team traveled to Littlestown, Pa. for the Mount St. Mary’s Fall Classic last Friday which took place at the Quail Valley Golf Course.

The team struggled in the beginning, as it was 17 strokes behind leader Mount St. Mary’s who shot a 291 during the first 18 holes of the tournament. The Broncs were tied for eighth place.

I am writing in response to Dr. Gallay’s letter last week (“Population size takes toll on Earth,” The Rider News, 10/19/07) and his emphasis on the unsustainability of the current rapid rate of human population growth given the earth’s limited natural resources. The point he has missed is that even if there were no net increase in population size for the next 1,000 years, the rate at which our current population is using resources is outstripping the earth’s resources. CO2 is the issue. And U.S. citizens are a major source of the problem.

Freshman Andrew Cotes had two shots on goal in the 2-2 tie to Manhattan. He has three points this year with a goal and an assist.by Charles Guthrie

It was a tough weekend for the Rider men’s soccer team (5-8-2 overall, 0-4-2 MAAC) who were unable to hold leads in two crucial MAAC games.

On Sunday, the Broncs traveled to Manhattan (2-10-2 overall, 0-4-1 MAAC) trying to turn the season around. Things were looking bright for the Broncs, who had a 2-0 lead early in the second half.

I am writing in response to the story appearing last week (“Story of Religious Hatred Hits Home,” The Rider News, 10/12/07). The newspaper reported on a speech given at Rider by Osama Sabbah, a student at Guilford College. According to the story, Mr. Sabbah indicated he and another student were victims of a hate crime on our campus on Jan. 20, 2007.

A dark tunnel under the Yvonne Theater is one of a few eerie places in Fine Arts, though it is usually blocked by a heavy door.By Oliver Joszt and Erin Ludwig

There is an old adage that says, “Every good theater has a ghost.” Rider’s Yvonne Theater is no exception to the rule.

“Ghosts have been haunting the Yvonne Theater as far back as I can remember,” said senior Zach Aguanno, vice president of Alpha Psi Omega.

I am the reporter with Breaking News Network (BNN) that broke the Gov. Jon Corzine accident in Galloway Township. I came across the letter to the editor of The Rider News from Dr. Thomas Simonet (“Reports broadcast on pager service sometimes misinform,” 4/27/07). I wanted to respond to that letter and some of the points made, because if Dr. Simonet knew more about BNN maybe he would be less critical of our coverage.

by Charles Guthrie

While the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox are playing in the big one, let’s take a look at another series on campus.

This is an intense inter-squad game played by the baseball team and is known as the Cranberry vs. Black World Series.

This was the fourth year that the series was played and the teams play three-inning games in a best of five format.

The Rider women’s soccer team did not find much luck in New York this past weekend as it lost two MAAC games.

On Oct. 19, Broncs traveled to upstate New York to play against Niagara who are the defending champions.
The Broncs could not come up with the win. They lost 2-1 against Niagara.

In a scene from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Brad and Janet timidly approach the eccentric Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The musical will be performed at Bucks County Playhouse next week.By Shavon Keller

Imagine a show where the audience can dress up in costume, throw rice during the show and scream obscenities at cast members. Normally, this behavior might land an audience member in trouble — but not when the play is The Rocky Horror Show. It’s because of all of this bizarre behavior that makes Rocky Horror a hugely successful Halloween tradition.
