New Jersey and You: Perfect Together

New Jersey, I feel, is a very under-appreciated and underrated state. We all go to school in Jersey, and most of the students who attend this school grew up in this state as well. And yet I feel there are some people who call this great state home that don’t realize what a great place it is.

New Jersey is often the brunt of jokes from stand-up comedians and average Americans alike. I am from New York, and when I told my friends three years ago I would be transferring to a school in New Jersey, they all laughed. Admittedly, I knew very little about this state, and I was curious to see why it was the butt of so many jokes. Pretty soon it hit me: Everyone else is jealous of the great Garden State. That’s right, what other state can boast two musical legends such as Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Kevin Smith, the best filmmaker to debut in the past ten years, hails from New Jersey. And legendary wrestler Bam Bam Bigelow, who was robbed of the WWF title at Wrestlemania VII, is from Asbury Park. Also, Vince Lombardi and Walt Whitman were both born here. So next time people snicker when you tell them you’re from Jersey, ask them what’s so great about their state.

New Jersey has a certain kind of charm that grows on you after a while. It is the most densely populated state, so there are many different kinds of people you can meet here. It has a nice mix of urban and rural areas, all close to each other. New Jersey is like a microcosm of America. Also, New Jersey has the most diners per capita of any state in the union, which is never a bad thing. And to top it all off, there’s legalized gambling. What more could you want?

So when the weather gets warm, I know I’ll be driving down the highway with the windows down, blasting Slippery When Wet, smoking a blunt and heading down to the shore. Because, I’ll say it right now, I love New Jersey. To quote the Boss, “Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City.”

On an unrelated topic, I want to laugh at all the Philadelphia Eagles fans for their team’s pitiful performance against the Washington Redskins.  Is there anything more annoying than loud, pompous, ignorant Eagles fans? These punk Eagles fans like to talk so much smack. Well here are some questions for you. Question: When was the last time the Eagles won the NFC East? Answer: 1989. Q: When was the last time the Eagles appeared in a Super Bowl? A: 1981. Q: When was the last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl? A: Never. There you go, so shut your mouths.
