Innuendos

All is fair?

Whoever said all is fair in love and war certainly has never been in love. As most of us know, nothing is fair when it comes to love.

Love is one of those so-called emotions coined by Hallmark. There are countless movies that deal with the subject, and let’s not forget the cheesy pop songs. “I Think I’m in Love,” “I Will Always Love You” and “The Power of Love.”

Do these people actually believe what they are singing? They are living in a pure fantasyland.

Nothing in this world is that easy . . . especially not love. It might sound like a good thing in songs and in the movies, but it is not.

Some might say it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all . . . oh really? Everyone knows that losing the twisted game of love is a sour defeat. No one likes to openly give his or her heart to someone else just to have it trampled on.

I think it is far better to have never loved rather than to have loved and lost. At least that way, you do not have to spend months picking up the pieces after your significant other dumps you.

Also, there are those people that do nothing else but blab about how much they are in love; meanwhile, you sit there wishing that love’s hidden discomforts would come and bite them in the behind.

People that brag about how much they are in love are rookies to the game. Any seasoned professional would know not to get his or her hopes up too soon and to always be optimistic about a relationship.

People need to learn that love is a complicated thing. Nothing about it is peachy, grand or fair. I do believe in it, but I feel that people are too consumed with these images of the perfect romance to realize that love takes a lot of work and time.

Like most anything, there is always a downside. People should realize that love, as wonderful as it may seem, can be very brutal to those who do not acknowledge its darker half.
