Adlai Stevenson said, “The journey of a thousand leagues we say, begins…” Thus, the United Nations was chartered to establish a governing body for the world in an attempt to bring about peace, give humanitarian aide and mediate conflict.

 

October 26, 1785

Boston, Mass.

The first jackasses arrived in the United States as a gift from the king of Spain to President George Washington. They were sent to be mated with mares to produce mules. Jackasses have increased exponentially and continue to be a part of Americana.

October 27, 1938

New York, N.Y. and London, England

DuPont announced the creation of nylon. It was created by a group of scientists headed by Dr. Wallace Carothers based in two cities: New York and London. Henceforth its name—nylon.

 

October 29, 1929

New York, N.Y.

Black Thursday. Wall Street “laid an egg,” as quoted from Variety magazine. Stock prices plummeted and the economy followed shortly thereafter. The worst modern depression arose from that day.
