In one defining act, a Southern state took a large step backward, proving that ignorance can happen en masse. Tennessee, on this day, officially outlawed the teaching of evolution, fueling the “Scopes Monkey Trial.”

Rome, Italy

Beware the Ides of March. Julius Caesar, emperor of  Rome, was stabbed to death by a group of Senators, including his friend, Brutus—a betrayal  immortalized by the words of Shakespeare in Julius Caesar, “Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar!”
