Letter to the editor: SEC gives thanks

Dear Editor:

Now that we have one semester down and one more to go for the 2001-2002 school year, let us take a moment to reflect on the hardships of the past, then reflect on the fun and laughter that helped us to overcome our grief and pain. The Student Entertainment Council (SEC) of Rider University would like to take this moment to introduce ourselves and say “thank you” to all of the community that took the time to open their minds and grab hold of the opportunities that Rider has given them.

The Student Entertainment Council is made up of a diverse group of students with different ideas, opinions and beliefs, who come together with one goal in mind: to entertain you. Through different lectures, comedians and diversions of sorts, we planned to set this goal in motion and do our best to make Rider University the most agreeable place to be.

Your SEC would now like to take this time to say “thank you.”  Thank you for coming to the B.E.T. Comedy Tour. Thank you for joining us in the little town of Springfield when “The Simpsons” writer/producer, Mike Reiss, came to visit. Thank you for joining us every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the SEC Film Series and for taking the time to join us on Sundays for the SEC Classic Film Series.

Thanks for turning up at the Mental Magician, Creig Karges, and for sharing a laugh with us at comedian Jamie Lissow. Thanks for stopping by at one of our many Daytime Diversions that were located in Daly’s East & West and the Student Center.

We appreciate you all coming with us to NYC for Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Les Miserables (with the French Club), A Christmas Carol (with Catholic Campus Ministry) and this past weekend for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. We express our thanks for your support during Midnight MAACness (sponsored with SGA and Athletics).

Thank you for joining us in a night of spoken word, as we welcomed the Def Poetry Jam, and for sitting down and eating with us at the Multicultural Food Fest. We would also like to thank you for attending the Distinguished Writers Series this year, ,as we welcomed Edwidge Danticat to Rider. These were all great events that were even better because you, the Rider community, attended them. We would also like to take this time to thank all the volunteers at all of these events, for without their help, many would not have occurred.

All in all, your SEC would like for everyone in the Rider community to continue its support as we try our best to entertain. This semester seems to be shaping up quite nicely so far, and as events start to come together, we will do our best to keep you updated.

Sincerely,

Joe Abel
