Impressive Broncs win four of five, including four-game streak
Sure there have been some exceptionally close calls – such as a game-winning lay-up with five seconds to go in one contest and a miraculous game-tying three-point heave at the end of another – but, surprise, surprise: the team that couldn’t beat mediocre NJIT two weeks ago has suddenly shot down four well-known programs all in a row. In spite of a 67-66 defeat last night to visiting Monmouth (3-5 overall), the Broncs (4-2 overall) have in two weeks compiled half the number of wins that they had all of last season. .... MORE
Freshman guard Ryan Thompson (5) started the game against Drexel on Monday, Nov. 27, and finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Thompson was also responsible for tying the game with a 3 -point shot with six seconds remaining in regulation.
Women end disappointing November
It would be safe to say that this is not the way the women’s basketball team was hoping to open the 2006-2007 season. Iona plays spoiler, knocks off Rider in MAACs
Anyone who thought Rider had Iona’s number thought wrong. After defeating Iona (11-21 overall, 5-13 MAAC) twice by 3-0 scores during the regular season, including the season finale on Nov. 11, the No. 8 Broncs (8-21 overall, 6-12 MAAC) lost to the No. 9 Gaels in straight sets, 30-28, 30-21 and 30-22, in the opening round of the MAAC.... Athletics Hall of Fame coach dies
Teaching accounting is hard enough, but being a coach in addition must have made it tougher for Rider Athletics Hall of Famer, Tom Leyden, who died on Nov. 19 at age 94. “Tiger” Tom passed away in Tulsa, Ok., after coaching the men’s basketball team for 15 years in the ’40s and ’50s, coaching golf for a dozen years...
