New club promotes the arts, links both campuses together

By Valis Vicenty

A club has brought the Lawrenceville and Princeton campuses together.

RU:CAST, the Rider University Creative Arts Solutions Team, has integrated both campuses to form a club for those who love the arts and would like to get their work out to the public.

“The aim of RU:CAST is to assist students in gaining knowledge and experience in the production of arts events,” said senior Natalie Megules, the group’s president. “Students who would not otherwise have the resources to produce their own works of theater, music or dance may submit a proposal to the organization and get assistance in all aspects of production.”

The club officially got its start last semester and was inspired by an arts management minor that taught students the ins and outs of the business aspects of producing art.

The aim of RU:CAST is to help those starving artists network with professionals in the field and find different means to have their works produced.

This club is not restricted to just fine arts majors. Students who have a passion for the arts and
wish to produce their work for public consumption can join and gain the assistance that they need with all aspects of their production. It is a way for creative students not only to build their resumes but also to gain contacts with those in the field for possible internships with businesses such as art galleries and studios.

How does the club manage to meet when there are members from both campuses?

“The executive board is made up of people from both campuses who meet once a week on the Westminster campus,” said Megules. “The general meetings are held on the Lawrenceville campus with organized transportation from Westminster.”

RU:CAST hopes to accomplish a lot this year by first starting with its “Blatant Self-Promotion Brunch.” All students are welcome and can interact with various professionals in the art management field. The NJ Opera Theater, McCarter Theater, The American Repertory Ballet, as well as many other individuals from art galleries and dance studios will be represented at this event. The club is also always reviewing submissions for productions and is planning a party for the holidays.

“This club will help to integrate both campuses — which can’t hurt,” Megules said. “It [RU:CAST] gives students a chance to meet new people and share new ideas — and make great art at the same time.”
