Cold Reception for Rivals
Broncs ice TCNJ, Lafayette

The objective for the ice hockey team this far into the season was to be on the better side of .500. Having done that, coming up with a pair of convincing wins against two of its biggest rivals was just the icing on the cake. The Broncs, sitting at 5-2-1, have come up big across the board, sporting a roster that is half-filled with rookie players. According to Head Coach Ted Gerry, this youth has not been a drawback to any extent. “We have a lot of young kids that are really doing a great job,” Gerry said. “They’ve all been pretty impressive.” .. Sophomore forward Kyle Lucas (13) faces off against TCNJ’s Ryan Potosky during the Oct. 14 home game against the Lions. Lucas and the Broncs would go on to win the game 6-3; they currently stand at 5-2-1, while TCNJ dropped to 3-4-1.

Women’s soccer still alive for playoffs

An up-and-down season that was once drowning in inconsistency and unpredictability suddenly has hope and optimism. Following a 1-0 win over visiting Iona (3-10-4 overall, 1-4-2 MAAC), the sixth-place Broncs (5-8-2 overall, 3-4 MAAC) find themselves just one-and-a-half games behind Niagara (8-6-1 overall, 4-2-1 MAAC) for the fourth and final... Picked to finish seventh in the MAAC in a preseason poll on Aug. 2, the Broncs have stumbled on hard times … again and again and again. Thanks largely to a 3-10-4 overall record and a 0-5-2 mark in the conference, Rider is ranked last in the standings..... MORE

Volleyball faces stretch of six crucial matches

Matches that would ordinarily be no more than minor blips on Rider’s volleyball radar have now become monumentally important. A 3-0 defeat at defending MAAC champion Siena (10-2 overall, 14-11 in MAAC) on Oct. 21 has the Broncs (7-14 overall, 5-7 MAAC) on the verge of dropping frighteningly in the standings. They have lost three in a... MORE

Prevent defense

I can promise you this: Rider will not become the next University of Miami. Or Florida International, or Holy Cross, or – I can’t believe I’m saying this with complete optimism – Dartmouth. The approximate 355 student-athletes on campus will never use their helmets for anything other than protection, never make a fist except to hold it up in celebration or kick something unless it’s a ball. They will not act like thugs, they will ... MORE
