Freshman in critical condition: 'Possible hazing incident'

A student remained in critical condition last night after what was deemed by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office to be a “possible hazing incident” involving alcohol at the Phi Kappa Tau (PKT) fraternity house. Gary DeVercelly, an 18-year-old freshman from Long Beach, Calif., was found unconscious after suffering cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated through CPR by EMTs, according to officials. .... MORE

The Phi Kappa Tau fraternity on the Lawrenceville campus was off limits after freshman Gary DeVercelly, of Long Beach, Calif., became seriously ill after consuming too much alcohol.

Thursday morning two associate members of Phi Kappa Tau (PKT) fraternity reminded us of the sometimes life-threatening danger alcohol can pose to health and safety. Although one student was treated and soon after released, another PKT associate suffering from alcohol poisoning treated in the intensive care unit at Capital Health System, at Fuld campus remains serious ...
